Pleasure Craft Operator's Card (PCOC)

As of September 2009, all boaters in Canada must hold a valid Pleasure Craft Operator's Card or equivalent ("proof of competency") to operate a pleasure craft fitted with a motor. Visit http://www.tc.gc.ca/BoatingSafety/menu.htm for the official facts.

We urge boaters to take boating training, for example the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons' Boating Course, a 14-week winter program (one evening a week) which includes the Pleasure Craft Operator's Card.

  • We also offer a 2-evening course for the PCOC card only at Quartermaster Marine.
  • After the basic courses, take more training for safe and pleasurable "better boating": see our Courses page.
