Annual Calendar, Blue Heron Power & Sail Squadron

Members and General Public: Watch "What's New" for specific dates and times of social and training events.  

Bridge Officers: Check the CPS-ECP Guidebook Chapter 14 for a list of annual Squadron Calendar events that pertain to your position. The Guidebook is on Members Moorings at the national website.

September
  • Training Year runs September 01 to August 31.
  • First regular Bridge meeting of the new season.  Usually first Tuesday of each month at HMCS Queen Charlotte.  The Bridge does not meet during May-August unless required.
  • Planning for winter courses.  Vote for courses you would like the Squadron to put on using the Course Interest form.
  • When new Bridge elections will be required in the fiscal year, the Nominating Committee will meet early in the year to select a candidate for Squadron Commander, and then involve that Commander in the selection of the new Bridge nominees (Sq Reg 9.15.5).
October
  • CPS-ECP National Conference.  National Bridge change of watch (election of new executive).The conference rotates around Canada.
November
  • Registration evening for winter courses.  Usually first Tuesday of November at HMCS Queen Charlotte, but check What's New for confirmation.
  • Atlantic District Council and Training meeting, usually held on a Saturday in Moncton, New Brunswick.  This meeting is of special interest each year for instructors and Training Officers.
November to April
  • Usual season for winter courses that require classes one evening a week.  Boating course classes usually are on Tuesday evenings, although this may vary from year to year.
December
  • Merit Mark year runs January 01 to December 31.
  • Squadron Commander to submit Merit Marks report to the District Commander  for all eligible Squadron members.
January
  • Although the membership year runs May 01 to April 30, new members who join during January to April will receive membership to April 30 of the following year (CPS Manual 7.1.4).
February
  • Annual "Winds and Waves" SeminarCombined educational and social evening sponsored by the Squadron for members and non-members, usually held at the Haviland Club on a weekend evening.  Must pre-register.  These have been very popular, and seating is limited.
  • Membership renewals due by end of membership year on April 30.  Members will receive an invoice from National. Bridge should follow up with members who do not renew.
March
  • We often run one- or two-day short courses in late winter/early spring. Some seminars might be run at other times of the year, depending on interest and instructors.
  • Contact auditor to begin audit of Squadron's finances.
April
  • Squadron  fiscal year runs April 01 to March 31.
  • Annual Squadron graduation ceremony, instructor appreciation and annual general meeting including election of Bridge officers ("change of watch") when required (Sq Reg11.1.1).  Usually on a Saturday evening.
  • Atlantic District AGM, usually held on a Saturday in Moncton, New Brunswick.  Financial report must be approved at the AGM in April and then submitted to National.
  • Squadron Secretary to submit names and contact information of new Bridge to Headquarters.
  • Website manager to update website with new Bridge members.
  • End of regular Bridge meetings for the season: time to get boats ready for the water.
May
  • CPS-ECP Membership year runs May 01 to April 30. Members who have not renewed their annual dues by May 31 will be in arrears and can be suspended from membership.
July
  • CPS National Fiscal Year runs July 01 to June 30.
August
